Scientific Models

Recently we just finished a unit on landforms.

Types of Landforms on Land — powered by ehow

Our class learned how scientist use models to study different ideas. We studied how a map and model differ, how the Grand Canyon was formed and the topography of Mt. Shasta.  It gave us time to think about the process of erosion and deposition.  The investigation made us think about things like map elements such as scale and contour intervals for elevation.  Wow, I think we found lots of ways to study landforms using models.  Below is a video of some of our investigations.  Check it out.

I’d love to get some feedback from the activities we did for landforms. What did you like? What could be improved? What are some ways you can think of using models for science?
